TIMES OF TRANSITION

The project Brytningstider is a work in progress. It will become an exhibition that explores how art can highlight major social changes in a contemporary and historical perspective. Through documentary photography, three periods of transition are depicted: the United States during the depression of the 1930s and 1940s, Sweden during the emerging welfare state of the 1960s, and the contemporary effects of climate change and technological development in Sweden today. The exhibition is planned to be shown in three locations in Sweden during 2026-2027.

ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE

Artistic residencies provide access to focused work environments and stimulating cultural contexts, fostering unique opportunities for creative development and deep artistic exploration.

FACILITATOR launched its first Start Up Residence in August 2025, as part of a cultural exchange between Sweden and the USA. The program included a working stay on Gotland for performance artists from New York City, complemented by curated dinners, studio visits, and a think tank with Swedish art professionals.

The Start Up Residence served as the launchpad for UNGOVERNABLE, a research/performance project emerges from an intergenerational collaboration between two women—an American artist and a former Swedish diplomat—motivated by the intertwined challenges facing democracy and the environment on both sides of the Atlantic. Together, they delve into archives to illuminate feminist troublemakers and political ancestors whose legacies resonate with today’s struggles, including Elin Wägner, Rachel Carson, and Audre Lorde. This investigation will culminate in a new play that interweaves archival and autobiographical material with strategies for collective action.
